What loads on this site

HoldBackup is a static guide site. It has no accounts and no checkout. These services load or can load when you visit:

• Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-ED6C1LW2FQ, loaded from googletagmanager.com). It records page views, which guide you opened, and a few actions: affiliate_click with the button's link id when you click a store button, toc_click when you use a guide's contents list, outbound_brand_click with only the domain when you follow a link to another site, calculator_used the first time you change the size calculator, and email_submitwhen you send a newsletter form. It never receives the address you typed or the numbers you enter. The calculator keeps those in the part of its link after the #, which your browser doesn't send to any server. Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga in your browser. HoldBackup turns off Google signals and ad personalization signals in its configuration.
• Ahrefs Web Analytics (analytics.ahrefs.com). It receives page URLs, referrers, browser and device information, language, and interaction events, and derives city and country from your IP address. Ahrefs says it discards raw IP addresses and uses no cookies for this service.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics (static.cloudflareinsights.com). HoldBackup is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and Cloudflare may add its Web Analytics beacon at the edge to measure page loads.
• Beehiiv, our newsletter provider. If you subscribe with the form on this site, your email address passes through a HoldBackup server function to Beehiiv so it can send the newsletter. HoldBackup keeps no copy. If you subscribe on newsletter.holdbackup.com instead, Beehiiv receives the address directly.
• Beehiiv's form on the backup signup page. When the form on this site can't add your address, you land on a page that loads Beehiiv's own form, and Beehiiv receives the address directly. Beehiiv's scripts run on that page only. They read the page you came from and any campaign tags in the link, such as UTM tags or ad click IDs. They can keep those in cookies named bhv_attribution and attribution_data for 30 days, and set a cookie starting with bhv_ for up to a year after you subscribe.

We do not load the analytics bootstrap when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. It also does not load on preview or local hosts, or in automated tests.

Store links and Amazon

Store buttons link straight to Amazon with HoldBackup's Associates tag. HoldBackup counts the click with the analytics event above; the click alone does not tell HoldBackup that you bought anything. After the click, Amazon sets its own cookies on its own site under Amazon's privacy notice, and Amazon reports qualifying purchases to HoldBackup in aggregate so a commission can be paid.

Why, and how to opt out

Analytics tell us which guides people read and whether store buttons get clicked, so we can fix pages that do not help. To opt out, turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser, block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link.
